About Njovu Clan    >>       Organisation of the Clan

Introduction

The Clan is organised into three main pillars as follows:

  • The Apex (Akasolya);
  • The Patrician Lineages (Patriarchates) (Ennyiriri z’Akasolya ezetuukira ku Mukalo, oluusi eziyitibwa Ennangira)
  • The Branches (Amasiga).

The Apex
At the top of the Clan is Mukalo. He is by tradition the head of the Clan and its chief executive (CEO) and chairman.
Mukalo delegates administrative powers to the Katikkiro of the Clan, who helps him to run the Clan.
The Katikkiro of the Clan has a cabinet or executive council which helps him to carry out his responsibilities.

The Apex has three key organs which make top decisions concerning the Clan, and these are:

  • The Heritage Council (Olukiiko Lw’ennono);
  • The Executive Council or Cabinet (Olukiiko Olufuzi Olwokuntikko);
  • The General Assembly (Olukiiko Lwabonna).

The Katikkiro, with the blessing of Mukalo, implements the decisions of the three organs.

These organs are detailed out in Chapter 7 of this document.

The Patrician Lineages
The patrician lineages descend from the seven Mukalos who preceded Ssessanga I. Each lineage is named after the grandfather of that line. Each lineage has families or houses that descent from the sons of the grandfather of that line.
